The clock is ticking: voter registration closes 30 August 2026

INEC's continuous voter registration is in its final phase before the 2027 elections. Here's the deadline, who can register, and how to make sure you're on the roll.

If you are not yet registered to vote — or you have moved, lost your card, or never collected one — the window to fix that before 2027 is closing. INEC's Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is scheduled to end on 30 August 2026. After it closes, there is normally no new registration before the elections in January and February 2027.

Where things stand

INEC has run the exercise in phases since online pre-registration opened in August 2025. The third and final phase has been under way and runs through 10 July 2026, after which the Commission displays the register of voters for claims and objections in late July 2026 — the period when you can check your own entry and flag errors.

The turnout to register has been substantial: INEC reported more than 2.7 million new registrations in the first phase and over 3.7 million in the second, alongside large numbers of online pre-registrations. In other words, the roll is growing quickly — make sure you are on it.

Who can register

  • Any Nigerian who is 18 or older (or will be by election day) and not already registered.
  • Anyone needing a replacement or correction — lost, damaged, or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or a change of details — can also use the exercise.

What to do before 30 August

  1. Register or update your details before the deadline, at an INEC registration centre or via the official pre-registration portal.
  2. Verify your entry when the register goes on public display in late July — confirm your name, polling unit, and details are correct.
  3. Collect your PVC once it is ready; pre-registration alone does not put a card in your hand.

A safety note: only the official INEC portal and accredited centres can register you. Be wary of any third-party website or individual asking for payment to "register" you — registration is free.
